Existing customers wanting to part-exchange or upgrade. Established and respected watch dealers. Individuals who can satisfy the very high standards of our team of expert watchmakers We DO NOT buy Pre-Owned Watches from: Anyone who cannot provide warranty certificates, proof of identity, proof of purchase or trade references. Anyone without the approval of our team of expert watchmakers. EBay vendors. Nor will will we buy any watches that have been bought through Ebay. 2.How has the watch been authenticated? We are affiliated with a team of Watchmakers with over 35 years experience to check every detail of the watches that are purchased. The following checks are made to ensure that counterfeit watches or watches of dubious origin never appear on the website. Serial numbers. Lost and stolen databases are checked to confirm the watch history. Movements. The movement is inspected and all constituent parts are authenticated. Paperwork. All paperwork is checked against the watch serial number. Manufacturer checks. We contact manufacturers direct to establish the authenticity. Source checks. Watches are not bought without detailed information on the seller. 3.What condition is the watch in? We know that people don't want worn or damaged watches. Our pre-owned watches fit into two categories. The watch is already in immaculate condition. The watch can be returned to immaculate condition. If our watchmakers can't return the watch to an immaculate condition then we dont buy it. Once the quality and value of pre-owned watches have been witnessed, few will ever buy brand new again. 4.What happens if the watch is faulty? All pre-owned watches carry a 12 month warranty issued by our dedicated service and repair centre. During that period we will repair any faults free of charge. All the technicians have worked to team leader or head watchmaker standard at the major watch houses and are trained and equipped to the highest standards. Obviously the time taken to repair a watch will depend on the nature of the fault. Our turnaround time will be significantly less than the standard 5 - 10 weeks of the manufacturers. Your questions answered. The savings are great but will my friends know it's pre-owned ? After a complete refurbishment the pre-owned watches carry no visible signs of wear and tear. To all but the expert eye they will appear to be brand new. You can save thousands of rands on the price of a brand new watch that to most people will look identical. Our watchmakers have all reached team leader or head watchmaker level with the major watch houses, and work to an exceptionally high standard. Any parts that show any wear are replaced with official certified parts bought from the manufacturer. The movements are kept in perfect working condition and the case and bracelet are polished to such a high standard that all marks and scratches are removed. After all of this you are left with the prescion of a new movement along with the sparkle of a watch that looks as though it has just left the factory. You have told me never to buy without the manufacturer's original paperwork. Brand new watches should always be bought with paperwork but the pre-owned market is a different matter. Once the manufacturer's warranty has expired (usually 1 year) the paperwork only serves to show where and when the watch was originally bought. When buying without paperwork you should always ensure the supplier is a trusted source. Our team of watchmakers will authenticate any watch using the serial numbers, a thorough inspection of the case, the movement, and the bracelet. We can establish the age and servicing history of a watch by an assessment of the case numbers, bracelet references and movement. SEIKO SEIKO ORANGE MONSTER SKX781K automatic R4,999 So why is this watch called the "Monster?" At approximately 42mm in diameter, the watch is quite large. It also has some impressive heft to it, but I find it comfortable. With an arrowhead for an hour hand, and a sword for a minute hand, you know this watch means business. The polished SS bezel has a pattern that makes griping it for rotating easy, but also gives the watch a very "muscular" appearance. The orange dial on the SKX781K gives the watch an almost rebellious presence - like the horological equivalent of Bart Simpson screaming "in your face dude!" This watch definitely has "attitude" - it is a nice departure from my "mainstream" watches in my collection, and another reason I bought it. All these factors combine to create a watch that can nearly be described as imposing. This is a watch that other watches definitely would not want to meet up with in a dark alley. Who Produced The First Automatic Chronograph?

Recently I've been researching and collecting around the question: who produced the first automatic chronograph? Although I have my own opinions and answers, and now with today's mail an example of each of the three contenders, I thought it would be interesting to see what everyone thinks the answer is to this question.

Is it:
Zenith, with their column wheel 36,000 bph El Primero
Heuer/Breitling/Hamilton-Buren/Dubois-Depraz with their modular caliber 11, which combined the Hamilton-Buren micro-rotor movement with a Dubois-Depraz timing module
Seiko, with their 6139A column wheel movement which featured the first use of a vertical clutch mechanism.

ZENITH.....THE EL PRIMERO!!!....WatchTime magazinejust did an EXTENSIVE story of this EXACT question..(march issue +/-)....

The Zenith El Primero slid over the finish line just ahead of the Heuer/Breitling/Buren Caliber 11, and the Seiko....

Anonimo was founded in Florence, Italy in 1997 by Florentine designer and businessman, Federico Massacesi. His vision was to create a company specialising in the production of unique and high quality Italian watches and remaining true to Florentine watch making form and tradition. That vision has catapulted Anonimo to become the most important Italian company making high quality, unique and stylish wristwatches. This was success was perpetuated by Panerai, an existing Florentine company, being purchased by the Richemont Group. After this acquisition, Panerai uprooted and left Florence leaving an elite and established team of veteran watchmakers wishing to continue their watch making tradition in Florence. This wealth of expertise and skills of former Panerai staff joined forces with Federico to form the cornerstone on which Anonimo’s success has been built. INFO ON THE WATCH:The movement is hand wound oversized manual winding Unitas 6497-1 soigné, 17 jewels colimassone finish. it features hours, minutes and sub seconds counter at the 12 position. The watch case is sand blasted and satinised highest grade AISI 316 stainless steel which is laser cut to give highly angular and sharp edges. The bezel is screw locked as well as the display back. Scratch resistant sapphire crystal and patented crown locking device which is integrated into the watch strap and protects the crown. To adjust the time, this device between the lower lugs pops open to expose the crown, and locks back into place to lock the crown into place for water resistance and security. The watch can be wound up without disturbing the crown locking mechanism. This allows a water resistance of 12 ATM which is approximately 120 metres. The dial is yellow.
